The Delphi Group has finalized the BC Government’s draft protocol for forest-based carbon offsets. This draft Forest Carbon Offset Protocol was published November 24, 2010 by the BC Ministry of the Environment, who are accepting public comment until January 31, 2010. Stephen Wehr, Delphi’s Director of GHG Services was the lead technical writer of the protocol, with the input from a technical working group comprised of advisors on forest management and forest carbon, and support and direction from the Project Team and the Project Steering Committee.
This protocol has been designed to guide the development of GHG offset projects on a range of lands in the province and is expected to play an extremely significant role in the reduction and sequestration of carbon dioxide in BC.
According to Stephan Wehr, “this protocol will deliver very high quality offsets to BC’s emerging cap and trade market and will ultimately enable project developers to reduce emissions while simultaneously creating carbon offset credits. We are extremely proud to have been able to prepare this protocol for the BC Government and look forward to its finalization and adoption in the New Year.”
