CleanBC Workforce Readiness Plan Project

Building the workforce for a

clean economy

On December 5, 2018, the Government of British Columbia released CleanBC, a plan aimed at reducing climate pollution while creating more jobs and economic opportunities across the province. CleanBC sets a pathway to a more prosperous, balanced, and sustainable future; it outlines actions to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and provides an effective blueprint to build the economy.

This survey is an opportunity for businesses and training organizations across British Columbia to provide suggestions, ideas, and recommendations for advancing opportunities and addressing gaps / barriers to workforce and skills development as related to BC’s clean economy and the Province’s CleanBC plan.

Results of the survey will inform ongoing research and ultimately the development of the CleanBC Workforce Readiness Plan.

Please note that the BC Government is also running a survey for a wider audience through the EngageBC platform. More information about the broader public engagement is available here

A key component of CleanBC is to ensure that British Columbians get the skills they need to thrive in a low-carbon economy. Government is funding the development of a CleanBC Workforce Readiness Plan (CBCWRP) to address the labour and workforce opportunities that will emerge through the implementation of CleanBC. CBCWRP will support workforce capacity building, guide investment in relevant skills training, and highlight new opportunities for BC’s workers in a low-carbon economy.

The goal of the CBCWRP is to ensure that BC’s clean economy is globally competitive and able to respond to emerging opportunities through training, retraining and ongoing professional development programs.

This project is funded through the Canada-BC Labour Market Development Agreement’s Sector Labour Market Partnerships program as administered by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training.

The CBCWRP project began in fall 2018 and has included clean economy sector engagement and labour market research activities to date. To build on initial research and inform the development of the CBCWRP strategy, an industry survey and a series of regional workshops are being conducted in fall 2019.
