Guest blog: Three More Reasons to Boost Your Business with Green Energy

This week’s blog is from guest contributor, Anthony Santilli, VP Sales & Marketing from Bullfrog Power. Full disclosure: The Delphi Group is bullfrogpowered with 100% green electricity and 100% green natural gas.

Environmental sustainability in business has evolved dramatically over the last 10 years. Previously, environmental stewardship was more of an afterthought for an organization. Today, sustainability is a key consideration in many corporate strategies.

Some businesses are opting to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and environmental impact by choosing renewable energy to fuel their operations.

Bullfrog Power’s green electricity is sourced from wind and low-impact hydro power produced by new Canadian green energy facilities from within your region. Through the purchase, green electricity is put onto the grid to match the amount of conventional electricity the business uses, displacing energy from polluting sources.

Green natural gas is a less GHG-intensive alternative to conventional, polluting natural gas. At a Canadian landfill, biogas is captured, cleaned up and injected onto the national natural gas pipeline on behalf of the business, displacing fossil fuel-based gas and reducing CO2 emissions in the atmosphere.

Green energy is more expensive to produce, but is more valuable as it is clean, renewable and does not pollute our air or water. In the longer term, with advances in renewable power generation technologies, and with increased demand for renewables, production is likely to become more cost-effective.

Many companies are already reducing their environmental impact by choosing green energy. The bullfrogpowered community—which includes more than 1,200 businesses—have displaced more than one million tonnes of CO2 since 2005.

In addition to its environmental benefits, choosing green energy enables businesses to:

1. Align with consumer values: Surveys in the retail industry alone indicate that 70% of Canadians think about the environmental impact of their purchases1, and 83% are more likely or somewhat more likely to buy products from a company that has reduced its use of fossil fuels2.

2. Inspire others to take action: Many Canadians are unaware that green energy choices are available, and seeing businesses they care about lead the way on energy issues can often spur action in their own lives.

3. Attract Millennial workforce talent: A 2015 Deloitte survey of Millennial employees concluded that “Millennials are just as interested in how a business develops its people and contribution to society as they are in its products and profits.” And, seventy-five per cent of Millennials polled believe “businesses are too fixated on their own agendas and not focused enough on helping to improve society”3.

Choosing green energy is a simple, powerful way to make a real difference while demonstrating environmental leadership.
