About COP 17
The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa (COP 17) will take place from November 28-December 9, 2011. This conference will bring together representatives from the world’s governments, international organizations, and civil society, who will seek to advance the implementation of the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol. Almost 15,000 people representing 194 countries are expected to attend the conference. It is hoped that the result of this conference will be a legally-binding international agreement on climate change which sets the framework for international action beyond the end of the Kyoto commitment period in 2012.
