GLOBE Series’ flagship event, GLOBE Forum, is the largest and longest-running environmental business conference in North America, attracting thousands of delegates from over 50 countries to Vancouver. For the past 30 years, leaders and innovators from business, government, and civil society have come together at various GLOBE events to share knowledge, leverage opportunities and find solutions. GLOBE Series’ vast networks and convening power enables them to connect companies, thought leaders, clean technology innovators, NGOs, financiers, and senior policy-makers who are changing the world. GLOBE Series’ biennial events include GLOBE Forum, held in Vancouver, and GLOBE Capital, held in Toronto, on alternating years.

Based in Vancouver, GLOBE Series is part of a constellation of organizations led by CEO Mike Gerbis that includes The Delphi Group, EXCEL Partnership and Leading Change. These organizations work together toward a common vision to achieve a sustainable, prosperous and socially just future in a generation.

Reporting to constellation CEO (Mike Gerbis), and collaborating as a member of the executive team, the GLOBE Series Managing Director will have oversight of the creation and successful delivery of the slate of internal and external events focused on sustainability, climate change and clean technology. The position oversees the operations of the Vancouver office including a team of approximately 20 talented individuals in Vancouver, Ottawa and Montreal.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the creation and execution of a compelling business strategy including content calendar (in all forms) from GLOBE Series. This should align and contribute to the achievement of the GLOBE Series vision and the furthering of the ‘clean economy’;
  • With P+L responsibility, oversee all facets of the business including large events such as GLOBE Forum as well as the implementation of small and medium-sized partner and client events. This will entail working with the leads of each functional area – including logistics, marketing and communications, programming and sponsorship – across the company;
  • Be a key external face of GLOBE Series, building relationships and working collaboratively with GLOBE Series suppliers, contractors, sponsors and partners who provide critical support to the on-going success of the organization;
  • Act as an effective people leader, able to recruit, retain and motivate an exceptional team;
  • Collaborate across the constellation to expand the reach and impact of the work done by GLOBE Series, The Delphi Group, Leading Change and the EXCEL Partnership.

 

Specific Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated contribution to the advancement of the ‘clean economy’, with domain knowledge in the realm of cleantech, sustainability, environmental protection, etc.;
  • Demonstrated leadership in hiring, nurturing and motivating highly engaged teams;
  • Significant experience in successfully managing an organization with a complex operational component and multiple stakeholders;
  • Ability to think strategically and manage effectively with excellent analytical skills, good decision-making ability, exceptional team building and management skills;
  • Strong business development skills, i.e. ability to sell the business, create and build relationships for the business, etc.;
  • Strong financial and budget management skills;
  • A connector, convener and collaborator;
  • A builder of trust-based relationships;
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in a crisis.
