Senior Consultant, Technical – The Delphi Group

The Delphi Group ( is seeking a Senior Consultant – Technical to lead client projects related to climate change, sustainability performance and Greenhouse Gas emissions mitigation. This includes projects in strategy development and implementation, business case development, research and technical analysis, climate policy analysis, and communication and reporting. The Senior Consultant – Technical would work with Delphi’s Senior Management and Consultants and Analysts across the company’s service areas to deliver high quality and innovative solutions to clients across multiple sectors.

A Senior Consultant at Delphi is responsible for proactively and independently applying project management, client relations, research and analysis, business development skills and experience in the performance of a range of consulting duties. The role requires excellent client support abilities, including clear communications, analytical and strategic competencies, and an appetite for taking the initiative around opportunities as they present themselves, all building on several years of previous experience in a consulting environment.

Senior Consultants are expected to support or take the lead on tasks related to the on-going internal management of Delphi’s business when assigned by Senior Management, participate in the company’s corporate responsibility activities, and undertake administrative tasks as requested.

The best candidates will be comfortable applying a strategic and technical lens to challenging projects that require an appreciation for client context, business strategies, policy considerations, systems effects, social impacts, and emerging trends in sustainability, ESG, corporate purpose and clean technology. Opportunities to enhance candidates already excellent visual, written and oral communication skills for both qualitative and quantitative topics will abound in this role.


Research, Analysis & Projects

Specific Project Responsibilities

  • Lead developing climate change mitigation strategies, valuation models, and other ESG performance analytics for clients with support from Senior Management and Analyst staff.
  • Serve as the project lead for the quantification of GHG emissions, GHG emission reductions, and developing GHG emission reduction targets.
  • Perform and/or oversee technical staff perform emission reduction feasibility studies and clean technology assessments to quantify local and systems-level impacts associated with specific initiatives/projects.
  • Consider the implications of policy and legislation when preparing analyses for projects and organizations
  • Coordinate with other team members to effectively bring company-wide expertise into client projects appropriate for the client’s needs.
  • Act as a general resource for strategic and technological aspects of a range of climate change mitigation and other sustainability projects and activities of varying sizes across multiple sectors.

General Responsibilities

  • Under guidance from senior management, lead projects of various sizes commensurate with experience.
  • Efficiently and effectively oversee and complete client deliverables, including the preparation of analysis, research, reports, presentations, and other project tasks as needed, delegating (or not) as appropriate to balance workflow, support staff training and development goals, etc.
  • Provide expert peer review / quality assurance on projects.
  • Take a lead role in maintaining ongoing communication with clients.
  • Prepare and edit emails and reports, lead meetings, and make presentations.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times. 



  • Evaluate requests for proposals to determine if a bid should be submitted, considering tactical, strategic, and competitiveness dimensions.
  • Lead the development of proposals, including judging the type of response format needed, writing the proposal, and for larger bids, engaging and delegating tasks to the broader Delphi team to assemble the proposal efficiently and on-time.


Business Development

  • Take a proactive approach to promoting Delphi’s accomplishments and projects through individual marketing, and participation and presentations at related conferences and events.
  • Take the lead on business development activities in a defined area of Delphi’s business aligned with the Senior Consultant’s areas of expertise.
  • Take the lead in client discussions to effectively scope potential new project opportunities, including assessing client needs and recommending an appropriate workplan and budget.
  • Contribute to meeting the company’s annual sales target.
  • Contribute to Delphi marketing activities as requested, e.g., blog posts, social media.



  • Preparation and delivery of presentations for technical and non-technical audiences of various kinds as warranted by client projects.



  • Use clear, professional, and effective communication with colleagues when working on projects, and with clients when presenting results.



  • A university degree in environmental sciences engineering, or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong project management and team management skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and organize work efficiently, in order to meet budgetary and timeline constraints.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using spreadsheets
  • Attention to detail when reviewing multiple sources of information and research data at all scales.
  • Strong ability to direct literature and internet-based research, guide the consolidation of information into concise findings, and communicate results to clients and stakeholders.
  • Over 6 years of related employment experience, ideally in a consulting-type environment providing service to a range of external or internal “clients”



(preference will be given to candidates with one or more of the following):

  • Prior experience working in a consulting environment
  • Relevant professional designations and certifications such as P.Eng, PMP, etc.
  • Relevant post-graduate degrees
  • Knowledge and experience helping companies establish GHG reduction targets and specific
  • Knowledge of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) and net zero strategies.
  • Prior knowledge and experience working on client projects related to the Task Force on Climate Related Disclosures (TCFD), including conducting scenario analysis.
  • Prior experience with corporate GHG emission quantification following best practice standards such as GHG Protocol, ISO 14064-1, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Prior experience with GHG emission reduction (e.g., carbon offset) assessments and/or methodology / protocol development following best practice standards such as GHG
  • Protocol, ISO 14064-2, voluntary and regulatory carbon offset program requirements
  • Knowledge and experience with the global corporate sustainability reporting landscape, standards, and key actors, such as GRI, SASB, CDP, CDSB, rating agencies and sustainable indices (DJSI, MSCI, ISS, Sustainalytics, etc.)
  • Experience in one or more major Canadian industrial or economic sectors.
  • Experience with land sector carbon accounting (e.g., agriculture, forestry)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop advanced MS Excel- or web-based tools and/or models, including utilizing VBA, python or other advanced techniques and employing user-friendly features and polished designs / interfaces.
  • Knowledge of Canadian, US and/or international climate change and sustainability policy, regulations, and programs.
  • Knowledge of and experience with sustainability indicators and internal data monitoring systems.
  • Experience with basic economic analytical techniques such as NPV, IRR, etc.
  • Experience using and designing databases, data lakes, and other data management systems.
  • Experience with data visualization software and tools such as Spotfire, Pandas, Tableau and Power BI.
  • Ability to communicate in French is considered an asset.
